Overview

GSK2231392A is an investigational adjuvanted hepatitis B vaccine developed by GSK. It consists of the recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) combined with the AS01B adjuvant system. The AS01B adjuvant is a liposome-based system containing two immunostimulants: 3-O-desacyl-4'-monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL), which acts as a Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist, and the saponin QS-21. This vaccine is designed to enhance the immune response, particularly in populations that may not respond well to standard hepatitis B vaccines, such as older adults or immunocompromised individuals. Clinical trials have utilized GSK2231392A to characterize the kinetics of early and adaptive immune responses, including T-cell and B-cell activation, in healthy hepatitis B virus-naive adults.
