Overview

GSK2336805 is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor targeting the hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A), a nonstructural protein essential for HCV replication. It exhibits potent antiviral activity against multiple HCV genotypes, particularly 1a, 1b, and 2a, with picomolar efficacy in vitro. The drug was developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection in adults with compensated liver disease and has been evaluated both as monotherapy and in combination with peginterferon alfa-2a and ribavirin. Clinical studies demonstrated significant reductions in HCV RNA levels after administration. Originally developed by GSK (GlaxoSmithKline), development rights were later acquired by Janssen[2][3][4][6][7].
