Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GSK2789868A is an investigational influenza vaccine developed by GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) as a candidate for the prevention of human infection with H7N1 avian influenza virus. It is one of several formulations studied under the broader category of H7N1 influenza vaccines, designed to induce an immune response against this specific subtype of Influenza A. The vaccine was evaluated in observer-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials to assess its safety and immunogenicity in adults aged 21 to 64 years. Results from these studies indicated that adjuvanted H7N1 vaccine formulations, including GSK2789868A, had an acceptable safety profile and induced antibody responses after two doses, with evidence of cross-reactivity to other subtypes such as H7N9[1][9]. The primary mechanism is immunostimulation via exposure to viral antigens.
