GSK3882347 is an orally bioavailable small molecule drug developed by GSK for the prevention and treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by Escherichia coli. Unlike traditional antibiotics, it acts as a FimH antagonist, targeting the adhesive protein FimH found on the surface of E. coli bacteria. By binding to FimH, GSK3882347 prevents E. coli from attaching to the bladder wall, thereby inhibiting infection without directly killing the bacteria[1][3][5][7]. This anti-virulence approach aims to reduce selective pressure for resistance compared to conventional antibiotics. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
