Overview

GSK3903003 is an investigational therapeutic vaccine developed by GSK for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). It is a protein subunit vaccine composed of recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and recombinant hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg), formulated with GSK's proprietary AS01B adjuvant system. Unlike prophylactic vaccines designed to prevent infection, GSK3903003 is intended to stimulate a robust, multi-specific T-cell response in individuals already chronically infected with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The goal of this therapeutic intervention is to overcome the immune exhaustion characteristic of CHB and achieve a 'functional cure,' defined by the sustained loss of HBsAg. GSK3903003 is frequently evaluated in sequential or combination regimens with other antiviral agents, such as the antisense oligonucleotide bepirovirsen, to maximize the potential for viral clearance.
