GSK3β siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK3β). GSK3β is a serine/threonine kinase that plays a critical role in various signaling pathways, including Wnt/β-catenin and insulin signaling. In many cancers, including glioblastoma, GSK3β is overexpressed and contributes to tumor cell survival, proliferation, and resistance to apoptosis by modulating the activity of p53, p21, and Rb. By utilizing the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, GSK3β siRNA specifically targets and facilitates the degradation of GSK3β mRNA, leading to a reduction in protein levels. This inhibition has been shown to induce apoptosis and sensitize cancer cells to radiation and chemotherapy in preclinical models. Research conducted at Kanazawa University has highlighted its potential as a therapeutic strategy for refractory brain tumors.
