Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GSK5251738 is an investigational small molecule agonist of Toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8) being developed by GSK for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. By targeting TLR8, which recognizes viral RNA, the drug triggers the innate immune system to produce antiviral cytokines and immunomodulatory factors. This approach is part of GSK's strategy to achieve a functional cure for HBV by enhancing the host's immune response against the virus. The asset, which was previously associated with the pipeline of GSK's former dermatology subsidiary Stiefel, is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
