Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GSK5459248 is a 30-plus valent pneumococcal vaccine candidate developed by GSK using the Multiple Antigen Presenting System (MAPS) technology platform. Originally developed by Affinivax (acquired by GSK in 2022), the MAPS platform utilizes high-affinity biotin-rhizavidin interactions to non-covalently link multiple polysaccharides and conserved pneumococcal proteins. This approach aims to induce both B-cell (antibody) and T-cell immune responses, potentially providing broader and more robust protection against *Streptococcus pneumoniae* compared to traditional conjugate vaccines. It is primarily being developed for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease and pneumonia in adults, specifically targeting a wider range of serotypes than currently available vaccines.
