Overview

GSK6479720A is an investigational mRNA-based multivalent seasonal influenza vaccine candidate developed by GSK. It was part of a collaborative program with CureVac, utilizing a second-generation mRNA backbone, before GSK assumed full control of the development and manufacturing in July 2024. The vaccine is designed to provide broad protection against seasonal influenza by encoding hemagglutinin (HA) antigens from multiple strains of Influenza A and Influenza B. Delivered via lipid nanoparticles, the mRNA instructs host cells to produce these viral proteins, thereby stimulating both humoral (neutralizing antibodies) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses. GSK6479720A was evaluated as 'Formulation A' in Phase 2a clinical trials to assess its safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity in healthy younger and older adults, contributing to the selection of optimized formulations for late-stage clinical development.
