Overview

GStemHep is a cryopreserved human pluripotent stem cell-derived immature hepatic progenitor cell product developed under current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) conditions. It exhibits an immature hepatic phenotype characterized by alpha-fetoprotein positivity and albumin negativity, secretes hepatocyte growth factor, and lacks major histocompatibility complex expression. GStemHep acts primarily through rapid paracrine effects on liver cells, alleviating inhibitory factors of liver regeneration, increasing proliferation-promoting factors, and reducing liver inflammation. This leads to swift therapeutic benefits in acute liver failure models by reducing serum transaminases and liver necrosis shortly after administration. The product is intended as a cell therapy alternative to hepatocyte transplantation or liver transplantation for acute liver failure[1].
