Drug intelligence / Profile preview
gstm2-ps1 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and knock down the expression of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gstm2-ps1 (the mouse homologue of human GSTM3P1). Developed by researchers at Augusta University, this siRNA is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in mitigating ischemic acute kidney injury (AKI). The lncRNA gstm2-ps1 is induced during renal ischemia-reperfusion injury and promotes proximal tubular cell apoptosis by binding to and inducing the degradation of the protective microRNA mir-668 via target-directed microRNA degradation (TDMD). In preclinical models, treatment with gstm2-ps1 siRNA significantly reduces renal tubular necrosis, apoptosis, and kidney injury biomarkers (such as NGAL), thereby protecting against ischemic AKI.
