GT 715 is a small molecule nitric oxide (NO) mimetic and organic nitrate derivative developed by GliaMed as a neuroprotective and cognition-enhancing agent. As the prototype of a novel class of nitrates, GT 715 was designed to selectively target the central nervous system while minimizing the systemic hypotensive effects typically associated with classical nitrates like nitroglycerin. The compound acts by activating soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC), which increases intracellular levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This signaling pathway is involved in neuroprotection against excitotoxicity and the enhancement of spatial memory and synaptic plasticity. While GT 715 served as the lead research compound and prototype for the family, its analog GT 1061 advanced further into clinical development for Alzheimer's disease.
