GTX-11 is a first-in-class small molecule inhibitor of Galectin-1 (Gal-1) currently in preclinical development by Gat Therapeutics for the treatment of fibrotic diseases, with a primary focus on Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Galectin-1 is a glycan-binding protein that is significantly upregulated in fibrotic tissues, where it plays a pivotal role in promoting fibroblast activation, myofibroblast differentiation, and the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) components. By selectively targeting the carbohydrate-recognition domain of Galectin-1, GTX-11 aims to disrupt pro-fibrotic signaling pathways and halt the progression of lung scarring. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that GTX-11 can reduce fibrotic markers and improve lung function in various animal models of pulmonary and liver fibrosis.
