Overview
Gualou + danshen is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal combination consisting of Gualou (Trichosanthes kirilowii) and Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza). This pairing is used in TCM to address conditions associated with "phlegm" and "blood stasis," particularly in cardiovascular diseases such as unstable angina. Danshen is known for its blood-thinning, vasodilatory, antioxidant, antiplatelet, and microcirculation-improving properties. Gualou is traditionally used to resolve phlegm and promote the movement of Qi. The mechanism of action for this combination involves promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, resolving phlegm obstruction in vessels, improving coronary microcirculation, reducing oxidative stress, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and potentially lowering lipid levels. Clinical studies suggest possible benefits for angina pectoris; however, robust scientific evidence remains limited[1][3][4].
