Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Guanchang Fang granule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula prepared as granules for rectal administration (retention enema). Developed by the Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, it is used as an adjunctive or alternative therapy for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, particularly steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis. The formula is designed to clear heat, resolve dampness, and promote mucosal healing. In clinical trials, such as ChiCTR-IPR-15005760, Guanchang Fang granule is evaluated in combination with oral TCM therapies (like Qinchang Lianyang Granule) and standard-of-care treatments (such as 5-aminosalicylic acid and steroids) to assess its efficacy in inducing steroid-free remission, promoting mucosal healing, and reducing recurrence rates compared to standard immunosuppressive therapies like azathioprine.
