Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Guanxin Shutong Capsule (GXSTC) is a traditional Chinese medicinal formula composed of five herbal ingredients: Fructus Choerospondiatis (Guangzao), Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), Flos Caryophylli (Dingxiang), Borneolum (Bingpian), and Concretio Silicea Bambusae (Tianzhuhuang)[1][2]. It has been clinically used in China for the treatment of coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, chest pain, depression, palpitation, and other cardiovascular diseases for nearly a decade[2][3][4][5][7]. Mechanistically, GXSTC exerts multi-target effects including antioxidative activity by reducing NADPH oxidase expression and oxidative stress markers; anti-inflammatory action by lowering interleukin-1β and interleukin-6 levels; endothelial protection via upregulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and increased nitric oxide production; inhibition of neuronal apoptosis; and modulation of vascular endothelial function[1][3][5]. Experimental studies have shown that GXSTC can reduce myocardial infarct size in animal models and improve neurological outcomes after cerebral ischemia[2][5].
