Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Guardion is a proprietary nanoparticle-based drug delivery platform developed by Vector Bioscience, a biotechnology company focused on precision medicine. The platform utilizes porous silicon nanoparticles (pSiNPs) to encapsulate and transport therapeutic payloads, such as small molecule chemotherapeutics (e.g., cisplatin) or nucleic acids, directly to target tissues. Guardion is designed to enhance the therapeutic index of drugs by improving their solubility, protecting them from premature degradation, and enabling targeted delivery to diseased tissues, particularly solid tumors, through the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. A key feature of the Guardion platform is its biocompatibility and biodegradability; the silicon nanoparticles degrade into orthosilicic acid, which is naturally cleared by the kidneys, thereby minimizing long-term accumulation and systemic toxicity. The platform is currently in preclinical development, with a primary focus on oncology indications such as pancreatic and lung cancer.
