Guava leaves aqueous extract is a water-based preparation derived from the leaves of the *Psidium guajava* plant. Rich in polyphenols (notably quercetin, catechin, gallic acid), flavonoids (such as avicularin and myricetin), saponins, tannins, and other phytochemicals, this botanical product has been traditionally used in folk medicine for its diverse biological activities. The mechanism of action is multifactorial but centers on enzyme inhibition (digestive enzymes relevant to carbohydrate/lipid metabolism), modulation of glucose transporters such as GLUT2 in hepatocytes[2][4], alteration of gene expression related to gluconeogenesis[2], direct antioxidant/free radical scavenging by polyphenols/flavonoids[1], immunostimulation[1], antibacterial/antiviral actions attributed mainly to flavonoids like quercetin[1], and restoration or beneficial modulation of gut microbiota composition with increased short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria[2]. It is widely available as a dietary supplement or herbal tea.
