Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Guazuma ulmifolia extract is a botanical extract derived from the leaves, bark, or whole plant of *Guazuma ulmifolia* (commonly known as mutamba or bastard cedar). Rich in bioactive compounds such as proanthocyanidins, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, the extract exhibits significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and photoprotective properties. It has been traditionally used in Latin American and Indonesian folk medicine for weight loss, hair loss, and diabetes. Recent clinical and preclinical studies have investigated its potential in managing type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, as well as its application in cosmetic formulations (such as powder makeup) to provide broad-spectrum UV protection and combat oxidative stress.
