Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Guchang Zhixie is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) multi-herbal formulation used primarily for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders such as ulcerative colitis and diarrhea-type irritable bowel syndrome. It is considered a classical prescription for intestinal astringency and antidiarrheal therapy in TCM. The pill contains multiple herbal ingredients that act synergistically to reduce inflammation, repair the intestinal mucosal barrier, regulate immune responses (notably via the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB p65 signaling pathway), and restore gut microbiota balance. Pharmacological studies indicate anti-inflammatory effects and modulation of cytokine levels in animal models of ulcerative colitis[1][2][3][4]. The exact composition may vary by manufacturer but typically includes herbs such as Atractylodes macrocephala, Paeonia lactiflora, Citrus × aurantium, Glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice), Bupleurum chinensis, Poria cocos, Saposhnikovia divaricata, Dolomiaea costus (Aucklandia lappa), Codonopsis pilosula, Dioscorea oppositifolia (yam), Zingiber officinale (ginger), Atractylodes lancea, Prunus mume (Japanese apricot), Cyperus rotundus (nutgrass), and Coptis chinensis[8]. Its mechanism involves anti-inflammatory action through inhibition of pro-inflammatory pathways and support for mucosal healing.
