Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gui Fu Di Huang is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula composed of eight herbal ingredients, primarily used to treat Kidney Yang deficiency. It is a modification of the Liu Wei Di Huang Wan formula, with the addition of *Cinnamomum cassia* (Rou Gui) and *Aconitum carmichaelii* (Fu Zi) to warm and invigorate the Yang. In the context of psychiatric research at Beijing Anding Hospital, it has been investigated as a treatment for depressive disorders, particularly those characterized by symptoms of fatigue, cold intolerance, and low mood associated with TCM-defined Kidney Yang deficiency. The formula is thought to modulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and neurotransmitter levels, though its exact molecular mechanism is complex due to its multi-component nature.
