Guifu Dihuang Wan

Guifu Dihuang Wan (also known as GFDHW or GFDHP) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the *Synopsis of Golden Chamber* (Jin Gui Yao Lue) by Zhang Zhongjing. It is composed of eight herbal ingredients: cinnamon bark (Rou gui), prepared aconite root (Zhi Fu zi), prepared rehmannia root (Shu di huang), cornus fruit (Shan zhu yu), cortex moutan (Mu dan pi), Chinese yam (Shan yao), poria (Fu ling), and alisma (Ze xie). Guifu Dihuang Wan is primarily used to warm and tonify kidney yang, addressing symptoms associated with kidney yang deficiency syndrome such as cold extremities, lower back pain, and frequent urination. Modern clinical research, including studies by Southern Medical University, has evaluated its potential to regulate unbalanced TCM constitutions (specifically yang-deficiency constitution) and prevent the transition from health to suboptimal health status, potentially through the modulation of gut microbiota and host metabolic pathways.
