Guiyuan

Guiyuan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Shanxi Yabao Pharmaceutical Group for the treatment of opioid dependence and opioid withdrawal syndrome. Administered as a capsule, it is a complex mixture of herbal extracts, including *Corydalis yanhusuo*, *Panax ginseng*, and *Angelica sinensis*. The therapeutic efficacy of Guiyuan is primarily attributed to its ability to alleviate the physical and psychological symptoms of withdrawal, such as anxiety, pain, and tremors, without the addictive potential associated with opioid-based replacement therapies. Pharmacologically, the formulation contains isoquinoline alkaloids like tetrahydropalmatine, which act as antagonists at dopamine D1 and D2 receptors. This modulation of the dopaminergic system is thought to reduce drug-seeking behavior and mitigate the severity of withdrawal symptoms. Guiyuan has been approved and marketed in China for clinical use in detoxification and addiction recovery settings.
