Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan (GFW) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originally documented in the *Jin Gui Yao Lue* (Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet) by Zhang Zhongjing. The formula is composed of five botanical ingredients: Cinnamomi Ramulus (Gui Zhi), Poria (Fu Ling), Paeoniae Radix (Shao Yao), Moutan Cortex (Mu Dan Pi), and Persicae Semen (Tao Ren). Traditionally used to "invigorate blood and resolve stasis," it is widely employed in modern clinical practice for gynecological conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and dysmenorrhea. Beyond gynecology, it is being investigated for its potential in treating bladder cancer, hyperlipidemia, and diabetic complications. The mechanism of action involves the modulation of inflammatory cytokines, induction of cell cycle arrest (via CHK2 and P21 activation), and promotion of apoptosis in malignant cells. Modern pharmaceutical versions, such as the Guizhi Fuling Capsule developed by Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical, have undergone extensive clinical testing and are approved for use in China.
