Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Guizhi Shaoyao Zhimu Decoction (GSZD) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originally recorded in the *Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber* (Jin Gui Yao Lue). It is primarily used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other inflammatory joint conditions. The decoction typically consists of nine herbs: Ramulus Cinnamomi, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Herba Ephedrae, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Radix Saposhnikoviae, Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata, and Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens. GSZD exerts its therapeutic effects through multi-target mechanisms, including the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6), modulation of the NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways, and regulation of the immune system. In clinical practice, it is often evaluated for its efficacy in patients with early RA, particularly when integrated with Western medical treatments.
