Overview
Guizhilongmu Prescription is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The formula is a modification of the classic TCM decoction 'Guizhi Jia Longgu Muli Tang,' which is traditionally used to harmonize the 'Ying' and 'Wei' levels and anchor the 'Yang' to calm internal 'Wind.' In the context of Parkinson's disease, it is primarily utilized to alleviate motor symptoms such as tremors and non-motor symptoms including sleep disturbances and anxiety. Research conducted at Longhua Hospital suggests that the prescription exerts neuroprotective effects by upregulating tyrosine hydroxylase expression, increasing striatal dopamine levels, and modulating the balance of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters. It is often administered as a hospital-made preparation in the form of a decoction or granules.
