Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GUM Hydral is a line of saliva substitutes and oral hydration products developed by Sunstar for the management of xerostomia (dry mouth) and hyposalivation. Classified as a medical device, the range includes mouthwash, spray, and gel formulations composed of lubricating and moisturizing agents such as hyaluronic acid, sodium citrate, xanthan gum, and carbomer. The product works by forming a protective, mucoadhesive film over the oral tissues, thereby mimicking the hydrating and lubricating functions of natural saliva. It is primarily used to alleviate oral discomfort, difficulty swallowing, and mucosal dehydration in patients suffering from medication-induced xerostomia or dry mouth resulting from radiotherapy for head and neck cancers.
