Overview

Guna-NT4 is a low-dose medicinal formulation of Neurotrophin-4 (NT4) developed by Guna S.p.a. for the treatment of retinal atrophy and other degenerative retinal conditions. Utilizing Guna's proprietary Sequential Kinetic Activation (SKA) technology, the formulation delivers NT4 at physiological low doses (homeopathic dilutions) intended to provide neurotrophic support to retinal neurons. The mechanism of action involves the activation of the Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB), which promotes cell survival and potentially improves visual function by slowing the progression of retinal cell death. This approach aims to leverage the signaling benefits of neurotrophins while avoiding the receptor downregulation often associated with high-dose exogenous growth factor administration. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical studies, including retrospective analyses of patients with retinal atrophy.
