Overview
Guominkang (GMK) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula developed by Wang Qi and used clinically in China for the treatment of allergic diseases, including allergic asthma and general allergy symptoms. The formula consists of six herbal ingredients: Prunus mume (Wu-Mei), Polygonum multiflorum (Shou-Wu-Teng), Cryptotympana pustulata slough (Chan-Tui), Saposhnikovia divaricata root (Fang-Feng), Ganoderma lucidum (Ling-Zhi), and Gastrodia elata (Tian-Ma). GMK has demonstrated anti-allergic effects in both cell-based and animal models, primarily through inhibition of IgE-mediated mast cell activation and reduction of passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reactions. Chemical analysis has identified at least 94 compounds within the formula, with emodin, ursolic acid, and hamaudol among the notable constituents. The mechanism involves modulation of immune responses relevant to allergy pathophysiology[6][8][10].
