Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GuShenPingChuan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, specifically within the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), particularly for patients exhibiting the kidney deficiency pattern in TCM diagnosis. The formula is designed to tonify the kidney and relieve asthma (wheezing). Clinical research, including Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials, has demonstrated its efficacy in reducing the frequency of acute exacerbations, improving lung function (FEV1), and enhancing the quality of life for COPD patients. Mechanistically, GuShenPingChuan is thought to exert anti-inflammatory effects by downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha, IL-6, and IL-8, and may also play a role in inhibiting airway remodeling through the modulation of growth factor signaling pathways.
