Overview
Gushukang is a traditional Chinese herbal compound medicine approved and widely used in China for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. It is formulated from multiple herbs, including Herba Epimedii, Rehmannia glutinosa, and Rhizoma Drynariae. The drug acts by promoting osteoblast differentiation (bone formation) and inhibiting osteoclast differentiation (bone resorption), thereby increasing bone mineral density. Mechanistic studies suggest that its effects are mediated through modulation of calcium homeostasis and activation of the BMP-2/Smads signaling pathway. Additionally, it has been shown to induce type-H vessel formation in bone tissue via upregulation of hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α), contributing to improved bone vascularization and health[5][6][1]. Clinical studies have demonstrated efficacy in both primary osteoporosis and postmenopausal osteoporosis[2][3].
