Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gusongbao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used for the treatment of bone-related disorders, including osteoporosis and skeletal fluorosis. It is composed of several herbal extracts, typically including *Epimedium brevicornu*, *Psoralea corylifolia*, *Rehmannia glutinosa*, and *Anemarrhena asphodeloides*. The formulation is designed to modulate bone metabolism by promoting osteoblast proliferation and activity while inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. In clinical research, particularly in the Guizhou province of China, Gusongbao has been evaluated for its efficacy in treating endemic skeletal fluorosis, a condition caused by chronic fluoride exposure that leads to significant skeletal deformities and joint pain. It is often administered as part of a multi-regimen approach to improve bone mineral density and functional outcomes in patients with metabolic bone diseases.
