Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Guwei Capsule (骨痿胶囊) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed and manufactured by Shaanxi Buchang Pharmaceutical for the treatment of osteoporosis and related bone atrophy disorders (Guwei syndrome). The drug is composed of several herbal extracts, including *Epimedium brevicornu*, *Rehmannia glutinosa*, *Drynaria fortunei*, and *Psoralea corylifolia*. According to TCM theory, it is designed to 'tonify the kidney and strengthen the bone.' Mechanistically, it acts as a bone metabolism regulator by modulating the RANKL/OPG signaling pathway to inhibit osteoclast activity and promoting osteoblast differentiation through the upregulation of Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 (BMP-2). Additionally, the presence of phytoestrogens in its herbal components allows for the modulation of estrogen receptor signaling, making it particularly effective for postmenopausal and senile osteoporosis.
