Overview

GVT is an investigational small-molecule cytoprotective agent based on monosodium luminol that exhibits potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, being developed primarily by Bach Pharma for neurodegenerative and neuroimmune conditions such as Gulf War Illness, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.[2][3][4][5][7][9] Preclinical studies show that GVT acts as a redox buffer and reactive oxygen species scavenger, restores intracellular redox homeostasis, and stabilizes the transcription factor Nrf2, thereby sustaining expression of antioxidant and detoxification pathways in central nervous system and immune cells, improving neurodegeneration and tissue injury in relevant animal models.[2][3][5][7][9] The compound is reported to be well absorbed, capable of crossing the blood–brain and retinal barriers, and to have a favorable safety profile in animal studies, supporting its exploration as a platform therapy for multiple oxidative stress–driven diseases.[3][4][5][7]
