Overview

GW-23B7 is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets β-sheet conformations shared by oligomeric forms of amyloid beta and tau proteins. Its mechanism involves binding to these β-sheet structures, allowing the antibody to clear toxic oligomers that are implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. Preclinical studies in advanced Alzheimer’s disease animal models demonstrate that GW-23B7 can reduce amyloid beta and tau oligomers, resulting in improved cognitive function without notable toxicity. The antibody was developed for immunotherapeutic intervention in Alzheimer’s disease and has demonstrated potential versatility for other protein aggregation disorders, given the β-sheet mechanism of action[2][3][4][6].
