GW4148

GW4148 is a **PPARpan agonist**—a small molecule that acts as a full agonist on all three peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) subtypes: PPARα, PPARδ, and PPARγ. It has been shown in preclinical animal studies to induce significant weight loss and reduction in fat mass, with effects similar to rimonabant, and increases in liver weight. GW4148 activates murine PPARα, PPARδ, and PPARγ nearly equipotently (EC50 < 100 nM). The drug increases lipogenesis and has been associated with increases in sebum production[1][7][5][11]. GW4148 has been cited as a tool compound in the study of metabolic, fibrotic, inflammatory, and cholestatic diseases, but appears to be used primarily for research purposes and is not a marketed pharmaceutical.
