Overview

GW766994 is a selective, competitive antagonist of the human C-C chemokine receptor type 3 (CCR3), developed as an oral small molecule drug. Its mechanism of action involves blocking CCR3, a G-protein-coupled receptor involved in the recruitment and activation of eosinophils and other inflammatory cells. By inhibiting CCR3 signaling, GW766994 was investigated for its potential to treat diseases characterized by eosinophilic inflammation such as asthma and eosinophilic bronchitis. The drug reached Phase 2 clinical trials for asthma with high sputum eosinophilia but development was discontinued. Preclinical research also explored its effects on neurodegenerative processes in models of Alzheimer's disease[1][2][3][4][5][7].
