Overview

GW824575 is an experimental small molecule drug developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). It acts as a C-C chemokine receptor type 3 (CCR3) antagonist and was investigated for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD) and asthma. In wet AMD, abnormal blood vessel growth in the eye leads to vision loss; GW824575 was designed to inhibit this process by blocking CCR3-mediated angiogenesis. In asthma, it was hoped that the drug would reduce airway inflammation by antagonizing CCR3 on inflammatory cells such as eosinophils. The compound reached first-in-human studies but its development has since been discontinued[1][2][4].
