GW856553 + rosuvastatin is an investigational oral combination therapy consisting of GW856553 (also known as losmapimod, a selective p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitor developed as an anti-inflammatory agent) and rosuvastatin (a well-established HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, or statin, used for cholesterol lowering and cardiovascular event risk reduction). This combination was studied for potential pharmacokinetic interactions and safety in healthy volunteers, with the aim of assessing whether co-administration affects blood concentrations of rosuvastatin. Rosuvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver, while GW856553 acts by selectively inhibiting p38 MAPK, a signaling molecule involved in inflammation and cardiovascular disease progression.
