GX-12 + HAART is a **combination therapy** consisting of GX-12, a naked DNA gene therapy using a human IL-12 mutant as an immune adjuvant, and HAART, a standard regimen of highly active antiretroviral therapy. GX-12 is designed as an immunotherapy vaccine to enhance HIV-specific immunity by presenting HIV antigens and boosting nonspecific immune responses through the activity of interleukin-12. In clinical studies, this combination is being investigated in HIV-1 infected patients to assess improved immune responses and viral suppression. HAART comprises multiple antiretroviral drugs that inhibit various stages of the HIV viral lifecycle, including reverse transcriptase, protease, and integrase activity, in order to suppress viral replication and reduce morbidity and mortality in HIV infection[1].
