Overview

GX-19 is a DNA-based vaccine candidate developed by Genexine and its consortium partners for the prevention of COVID-19. The vaccine encodes the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein, aiming to induce an immune response against the virus. As a DNA vaccine, GX-19 delivers genetic material encoding the viral antigen into host cells, leading to in situ production of the spike protein and subsequent activation of both humoral (antibody-mediated) and cellular (T cell-mediated) immunity. Clinical trials have shown that GX-19 is safe, well-tolerated, and capable of inducing binding antibody responses as well as T cell responses specific to SARS-CoV-2[1][4][6][9]. The development was led by Genexine in collaboration with Binex, International Vaccine Institute (IVI), GenNBio, Korea Advanced Institute for Science and Technology (KAIST), and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH)[5][7][10].
