Overview

GX-19N is a recombinant DNA vaccine developed as a candidate for the prevention of COVID-19. It encodes both the spike (S) and nucleocapsid (NP) proteins of SARS-CoV-2, aiming to induce broad humoral and cellular immune responses. The vaccine consists of a 1:2 mix ratio of two constructs—GX-19 (encoding spike protein S1/S2) and GX-21 (encoding receptor-binding domain fused with T4 fibritin C-terminal foldon and nucleocapsid protein). Clinical studies have shown that GX-19N is safe, well-tolerated, and capable of inducing both antibody production and robust T-cell responses specific to SARS-CoV-2 spike and nucleocapsid proteins. However, neutralizing antibody titers were lower than those observed in convalescent human sera or with some commercial vaccines. The strong T-cell response may provide cross-reactivity against emerging variants[5][6][7].
