Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gylomod is a small molecule sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator manufactured by Pioneer Pharmaceuticals. It is a generic version of fingolimod, primarily indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). The drug acts as a functional antagonist by binding to S1P receptors (specifically S1PR1, S1PR3, S1PR4, and S1PR5) on lymphocytes, which triggers receptor internalization and prevents lymphocytes from egressing from lymph nodes. By sequestering these cells in the periphery, Gylomod reduces the infiltration of pathogenic auto-reactive lymphocytes into the central nervous system, thereby decreasing neuroinflammation and axonal damage associated with MS exacerbations.
