Gynevac is an inactivated bacterial vaccine composed of several strains of *Lactobacillus* species, primarily *Lactobacillus acidophilus*. Developed by the Hungarian company AMVAC Chemical, it is designed as an immunotherapeutic treatment for recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV), trichomoniasis, and urinary tract infections. The vaccine is typically administered as a series of intramuscular injections and works by stimulating the mucosal immune system to produce secretory IgA and other immune factors in the vaginal environment. This response helps to suppress the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria (such as *Gardnerella vaginalis*) and protozoa, while facilitating the restoration of a healthy, protective lactobacillus-dominant vaginal microbiome. While it has been marketed in certain Eastern European countries for decades, it has also undergone Phase III clinical evaluation for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis.
