Overview

**Gynoflor** is a vaginal combination drug product containing ultra-low-dose **estriol** and **Lactobacillus acidophilus** in a vaginal tablet formulation. It is designed to treat **atrophic vaginitis** and related vaginal atrophy states by combining local estrogenic restoration of the atrophic vaginal epithelium with reconstitution of lactobacilli-dominant vaginal flora. The estriol component acts as a local estrogen receptor agonist that promotes epithelial maturation, reduces parabasal cells, and improves symptoms such as dryness and dyspareunia, while the lactobacillus component helps restore the vaginal microbiome and acidic milieu that suppresses pathogenic overgrowth. Publicly described development and commercialization have involved **Medinova** as developer/manufacturer and **Acerus** as Canadian licensee; the product has been studied clinically in postmenopausal women, including breast cancer survivors receiving aromatase inhibitors who developed severe vaginal atrophy.
