Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract

Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract is a botanical extract derived from the whole plant or leaves of Gynostemma pentaphyllum (commonly known as jiaogulan), a perennial climbing vine native to East Asia. The primary active constituents are dammarane-type triterpene saponins called gypenosides. The extract is used in traditional medicine and as a dietary supplement for its purported antioxidant and adaptogenic properties. Mechanistically, it has been shown to activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which may contribute to effects on glucose metabolism and fat reduction[3][5]. Clinical studies suggest potential benefits in managing type 2 diabetes[2][5], obesity[3][5], fatty liver disease[2], dyslipidemia[5], immune modulation (such as asthma)[1][2], and possibly cancer[2]. Standardized extracts such as Actiponin and ActivAMP are available commercially.
