Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gynostemma total saponins (also known as gypenosides or gynosaponins) are the combined saponin fraction extracted from *Gynostemma pentaphyllum* (Thunb.) Makino, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb also known as Jiaogulan. These saponins are dammarane-type triterpenoid glycosides, some of which are structurally identical to ginsenosides found in *Panax ginseng* (such as Rb1, Rb3, and Rd). Gynostemma total saponins are widely researched for their multi-target pharmacological effects, including immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory activity, lipid-lowering properties, and anti-tumor effects. They have been investigated in preclinical and clinical studies for metabolic diseases (such as type 2 diabetes and hyperlipidemia), inflammatory bowel disease, and cancer.
