Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GYS is a standardized botanical drug candidate developed by Hefei Jingfang Pharmaceutical Technology Development Co., Ltd. for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Formulated as granules, the drug is derived from an extract of *Vitex agnus-castus* (Chasteberry). Its mechanism of action involves dopaminergic activity, specifically acting as an agonist at dopamine D2 receptors in the anterior pituitary gland. This binding inhibits the secretion of prolactin, a hormone that, when elevated (latent hyperprolactinemia), is linked to various PMS symptoms such as mastodynia (breast pain), irritability, and bloating. GYS has been evaluated in Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials in China to establish its efficacy in alleviating both the physical and psychological symptoms associated with the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
