Overview

GZ296 is a long-acting injectable (LAI) formulation of semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, being developed by Bostal Drug Delivery. Utilizing proprietary platform technologies such as Zpheres® (microspheres), Geleepot® (in-situ gel), and Kriztols® (nanocrystals), GZ296 is designed as a once-monthly extended-release treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. It is being developed via the FDA's 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway, leveraging the established safety and efficacy profile of approved semaglutide products. The drug works by activating the GLP-1 receptor, which enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite to promote weight loss.
