This combination therapy consists of the oncolytic adenovirus H101 (also known as Oncorine) and an unspecified programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) inhibitor. It is currently being evaluated in a clinical trial (NCT06031636) sponsored by Tianjin Medical University Second Hospital for the treatment of advanced malignant pleural mesothelioma, specifically in patients who have previously shown resistance to PD-1 inhibitor monotherapy. H101 is a recombinant human adenovirus type 5 with deletions in the E1B-55K and E3 regions, designed to selectively replicate in and lyse p53-deficient tumor cells. The combination aims to reverse immune resistance by using the oncolytic virus to induce immunogenic cell death and alter the tumor microenvironment, thereby enhancing the efficacy of the PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor.
